You can roll your own samples using the onboard sounds or external audio inputs, or import AIFF, WAV, or MP3 files from your computer. I bought this board so that I don't have to take my FA-08 (also purchased through zZounds) out of the studio.

In the new Fantom, the smallest indivisible unit of sound is called a wave, which could be an instrument multisample or a single drum hit. This is the evolution I've been waiting for in Roland synth workstations. The right side of the FA-06 and FA-08 is populated with what’s essentially a Roland SP-404SX phrase sampler.

I'd tried the FA-07 which was nice, but somewhat limited, so I tended to fall back on the X7 as my main workhorse. At the time of writing Roland haven't published a wave list, but I counted 2108, spanning the gamut of musical timbre from acoustic to electronic.
